A major shift is underway in the West

An increase in progressive legislation for abortion, assisted-dying, and drug legalisation, alongside reforms to elder and palliative care over the last few decades, has corresponded with a reduction in those reporting faith or membership of an organised religious group.

This more secular world we’re living in prioritises bodily autonomy more than ever before, and we’re seeing more legal action, growing numbers of vocal political advocates, and historic referendum wins for issues like assisted-dying.

Assisted dying is currently having a moment of heightened discussion from New Zealand to the United Kingdom, and illustrates the compassionate reprioritisation happening around the world.

“There is a huge market for wholever can promise a painless, dignified and controlled death. So long as they can actually deliver on it.”– Jenny Kleeman, Sex Robots & Vegan Meat

While legalisation is the urgent remedy for many of the ills associated with prohibited treatments, activities, or substances (e.g. increased safety, reduced criminality etc), a strong society should take a more holistic approach.

Without tackling the financial, educational, and emotional pressures exerted on people within our society, the legalisation of drugs, abortion, and assisted dying, only solve part of the problem. This is where we believe talented entrepreneurs can step in and smooth the transition to a more progressive society.

At Death Ventures we’re on the lookout for innovative founders who can see this wider trend of autonomy and contribute to it in a sensitive, compassionate and necessary way.
